So, for those of you who are not familiar, ukay-ukay is the term for thrift shops in the Philippines. The word ukay literally means "to dig," and that’s exactly what you’re doing when you’re hunting for treasures in these secondhand stores. It’s like digging through a pile of amazing fashion finds, with items imported from North America and Europe.

The beauty of ukay-ukay is that you can score branded clothes, shoes, bags, and accessories—most of them in great condition—all at incredibly affordable prices. Throwback to College: A Personality Development Exam or Pure Kalokohan?

Looking back at my college days at the University of Rizal System Binangonan Campus, one memory stands out—and not in the best way. This blog is about a final exam for our Personality Development class, a subject that, to this day, leaves me questioning its purpose. The "exam" was a fashion show where we strutted in front of our professor, dressed in various categories like swimwear, casual attire, and gowns. Watching the footage years later, now as an adult, I still can’t determine the rationale behind this activity. What was it supposed to teach us? Confidence? Poise? Or was it just a misguided attempt to make the subject more engaging?

As I revisit this throwback moment, I can’t help but cringe. Imagine a room full of students awkwardly posing, walking, and showcasing outfits in front of a professor and their peers—all for a grade! The activity felt more like a comedy skit than an academic exercise. Sure, some might argue it was designed to build self-confidence or encourage us to step out of our comfort zones, but did it really achieve that? For me, it left more questions than answers. What life skills were we supposed to gain from this? If anything, it feels more like an anecdote for a college reunion rather than a meaningful learning experience.

🤵 Why I Avoid Buying Expensive Clothes and Lesson That I've Learned.

Part of growing is to recognize what you’ve learned from your mistake. I can’t say if that’s what we called – Adulting. I had numerous mistakes that I’ve done (real talk); some of them I regret and most of them I was thankful dahil nagiging nagamit ko naman yun to move forward.

Let me share you this experience of mine that – you guys, same with my age demographic will surely relate.

When I graduated in college, isa lang ang gusto ko, even during my childhood kasi nga laki ako sa hirap and all I want was – when I am already financial capable ay bibili talaga ako ng mga magagandang damit, sapatos, brief na may pangalan sa garter kasi astig siya ipakita kapag nakataas ang tshirt at nakalawlaw ang pantaloon. Diyos ko naman, with those brand na Hanford dati, sikat na sikat ka at parang ang hot mo pag meron ka non.

After ko makuha ang diploma, I started to work in a bank pero diko ako tumagal dahil ang baba ang sahod. I was earning minimum, seemingly, I can only eat and not even buy prepaid load for my phone kaya I gave up my job kahit inline sya sa napag-aralan ko. And joined this industry kung saan ang application at part of selection process ay walang math exam kundi you just keep talking in English – CALL CENTER- at bongga ang kaperahan.

Undeniably, I bought things that I’ve wanted since then. Kung bibili ako ng hoodie na LEE na tig 5k, pero dahil takot maubusan ng design dahil daw sale , aba naman bumili ako ng lima. Pagpasok sa work, paiba iba ang jacket at bawat isa na ka work mo, pagandahan ng jacket talaga.  Bibili ako ng jeans, hindi isa ung lima , bibili ng sapatapos dapat may rubber, leather, at iba pa. That time nag rerent pa ako ng apartment sa may Pasay at tila ba na everytime nalalaman ko ang orocan ko na plasic na damitan, there is something inside me na napupuno din.  Those were my 23^rd -27^th, diba? Ganon katagal ang bisyo nayun. Aba! May pa-havianas pa ang pota, eh samantalang nung grade 2 ako, ramboo na tsinelas lang masaya na ako ,na halos aabot ng grade 5 matibay pa din.

Kung itotal ko ang nagatos ko, that was like a huge a amount na kaya na siguro ako mag tayo ng piggery sa probinsya pero dahil nga inuna ko ang pangarap ko nung bata ako na wala ako, so dahil may work na na at sumasahod, pwede ko na bilhin ang gusto ko.

“Tansyong! Ang ganda naman ng jacket mo, ang kapal”

“Tansyong saan mo nabili sapatos mo?”

“Tansyong , ganda naman ng damit mo, anong brand?”

Those are the words that I kept on hearing – and this made my dopamine increases, which leads me to become an impulsive buyer. Di pa nagtapos sa pag-papaempress sa workplace, pinost ko pa sa social media. And those likes, damn man, inaabangan ko kung ilan na at sino ang naglike – pod pod ang cellphone sa kaka refresh.

Every day iniisip ko na ano kaya ang i-post ko, ganern! Yes friend, matagal na ako famewhore sa social media, hindi pa uso ang facebook, meron na ako Friendster, multiply at tumblr. At di sa pagmamayabang 8 years na ako nagsusulat sa blog ko. 

But life is not all always abundant. There are times times ang account sa call center nawawala, and lilipat ka naman sa ibang call center and worst thing mas mababa na ang offer at wala ka magawa dahil  papatosin mo talaga dahil sa wala ako na-ipon. Pag ka sign ng contract up to na regular na ako, diko pa padin na adjust ang lifestyle ko. SPELL DEFECIT, ganun, mas mataas pa gastos ko kesa sa earning. Hanggang sa dumating ako sa point na kahit anong gawin ko na overtime, hirap ako. And started to feel down, parang worthless and that made me feel so invaluable.

But I need to learn from my mistake. Yeah, meron sa ECONOMICS na tumataas din ang gastos in proportion to the income equals to a quality life. But my life was not as quality as I thought; it was only satisfying what the society might positively say to me. I was looking for self-validation from the people around me, and I use the materials things to cover my outside façade and ignored of nurturing my inside being.  

I am not saying that buying things for yourself is bad, it is good actually because it made you realize na oh , kayak o pala bilhin ko but WEARING CHEAP CLOTHES DOESN’T MEAN YOU’RE BROKE, REMEMBER, YOU HAVE FAMILY TO FEED AND NOT A COMMUNITY TO IMPRESS.

MADAMING SALAMAT SA INYO, TANDAAN NIYO MGA TANSYONG LOVERS WHO KEPT FOLLOWING ME. MAHAL NA MAHAL KO KAYO.

“I am perfect due to my imperfections” I uttered...

This was my statement when I had an intense conversation with one of my friends. That topic arose as we were talking about my (worst) attitude – being a perfectionist. Yeah, I admit that I am very keen towards any small details that I enclosed –proper time management, following my schedules and among others. Moreover, when it comes to choosing what to wear, I am very particular also about it. I always make sure that it should be in a balance combination both comfortability and style. I don’t wanna look like “trying hard” to wear a high fashioned outfits yet I am no longer relaxed to move freely. I am very certain on how do I look in every single day, and so checking in front of the mirror is not my thing  and I need  my “outfit of the day” to be documented by taking pictures.

Taking pictures of your “outfit of the day” is logical because you will be able to see the progress of yourself in opting the appropriate get up in proportion to your activity on that day. Certainly, posting your OOTD on your social media will also help you interact your followers; let them give you some advice and unconsciously, you learn how listen and embrace constructive criticism.

Honestly, I am a perfectionist type of person. I want to be visually pleasant whenever I go to work. It boosts my confident and it will end up my day with a productive, vibrant and happy perspective. Deep within, I knew that I am not impeccable but the possibility of getting perfection is attainable - it depends on how you live on it.

Furthermore, I am very rational on my OOTD or simply “OUTFIT of THE DAY”; but I am also extremely afraid of the same abbreviation “OOTD” or simply “OKRAY OF THE DAY”. Especially that I am using social media as a platform of getting feedbacks from my followers, as much as possible, I need to be more fervent in selecting what to wear and what to post on that day, to avoid destructive comments that will later affect me in growing. But again, like I’ve said - embrace constructive criticism and ignore unhelpful denunciation.

Lighten Your Easter Sunday Get Up.

Happy Easter Sunday! Christ has risen and so we have to celebrate it in the lighter way possible. 

Today, before going to the church I had hard time to pick what to wear in proportion to the celebration of Christ’s Victory – saving the world.

 I opted to wear pink polo. It is slim-fit and the small size truly fits me. Its brand is UNIQLO with Rafael design – with tiny stripes and not visible far away.  I love the colour because it is pretty vibrant.

For my trouser, I wore MUS JEANS (jeans intelligence fashion) , it is a chino and not jeans at all. I love the cotton fabric which gives comfortability especially if I am moving intensely. The metallic light gray is obviously fun partnered with the vibrant pink polo. I like the cut – it really embraces my legs.

My pair of shoes is CONVERSE and the style is “Wave Racer Ox”. I love the combination of the colours ocean blue and neon orange. It looks quite sporty and it balances my collared top – formal versus sporty is equals to casual looks.

Bluer than Blue

Blue is one of my favorite color. It is very visually cool and it gives us the relaxing approach. Blue is the colour between violet and green on the optical spectrum of visible light. 

And so today, I will be wearing a blue approach simple get up. With sky blue collared polo shirt on my top, dark blue jeans and royal blue boots. I added with a black fabric made shoulder bag to balance the lightness of the entire combination  

 

I opted to wear such mixes of get up which create relaxing hue. Moreover, the simplicity of jeans and polo shirt should be balanced – not too striking and advisable for your daily outfit especially this summer to avoid the heat of the sun that will result in too much perspiration.
