It is heartbreaking and infuriating to think that some people are capable of manipulating an innocent child to satisfy their own desires. According to the report, a man in his 30s was arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for allegedly grooming a nine-year-old girl over six months through Facebook Messenger and obtaining explicit photos and videos. Let that sink in. She is only a child, someone whose world should be filled with learning, playing, and feeling safe—not manipulation, fear, and exploitation.
Grooming is not love. It is not a harmless online relationship. It is a calculated process of manipulation that can rob a child of their innocence, safety, and trust. What makes it even more disturbing is that young victims may not immediately recognize the abuse because groomers often build trust before gradually crossing boundaries and exploiting their vulnerability.
Some people who become abusers may have experienced trauma, neglect, or abuse themselves. Unhealed wounds can influence how a person thinks, behaves, and relates to others.
However, being a victim in your past does not give you permission to become an abuser in someone else's life. Trauma may help explain certain behaviors, but it never justifies abuse. Healing means taking responsibility for your wounds rather than using them as an excuse to wound other people. You can acknowledge your painful past without repeating the same cycle of harm. Not everyone who has been hurt becomes a person who hurts others, and not everyone who causes harm can excuse their actions by pointing to their childhood.
Compassion is important, but accountability is equally necessary. Understanding someone's trauma does not mean ignoring the damage they inflict on others, especially when the victim is a child who cannot fully comprehend the manipulation taking place.
This is why protecting children must be everyone's responsibility. Parents and guardians need to create a safe environment where children can speak openly about uncomfortable online interactions without immediately fearing punishment or judgment. Children must be taught about online boundaries, manipulation, and the importance of telling a trusted adult when someone asks for private photos, demands secrecy, or initiates inappropriate conversations.
Authorities must also investigate allegations thoroughly and hold offenders accountable through due process. As someone who believes in healing and shadow work, I understand that confronting our darkness is essential, but genuine healing also means recognizing when our actions harm others and making a conscious decision to stop.
You cannot claim to be healed, spiritual, or compassionate while deliberately violating a child's boundaries.
Healing is not merely about understanding yourself; it is about ensuring that the pain you carry does not become someone else's trauma. Protect children. Listen when they speak up. And never confuse understanding someone's wounds with excusing their abuse.
