🌿 Embracing the Plant Enthusiast Lifestyle in a 13sqm Studio in Mandaluyong

Living in the heart of the city can feel like a concrete jungle—but it doesn’t have to be. As someone living solo in a cozy 13sqm studio-type apartment in Mandaluyong, I’ve discovered the joy and calming power of filling my small space with greenery. Despite the tight quarters, my home has become a peaceful urban jungle, and a big part of that transformation started with a rainy-day decision that turned into a lifestyle.

During a recent typhoon in the Philippines, while rain poured nonstop outside, I found myself needing a dose of nature’s comfort. So, I stepped out briefly to gather some variegated pothos plants I had growing outside. I cut a few healthy vines and placed them in makeshift vases—just simple cups filled with water. One went on my work-from-home desk to keep me company through long hours of meetings and tasks. Another cup found a home on top of my fridge, next to a warm Himalayan salt lamp. I even placed some by the sink, resting gracefully on top of my water filter. And yes, two more now live in the bathroom, thriving under the occasional mist from the shower.

This lifestyle isn’t just about decorating—it’s about grounding. Plants have brought a fresh, peaceful vibe to my apartment, making even the smallest corners come alive. They’re not just decor; they’re daily reminders of life, care, and resilience. Especially when you live alone, as I do, these green companions offer silent support and create a space that feels truly nurturing. Whether you’re in a big house or a small studio, the plant enthusiast lifestyle can transform your space into a soothing sanctuary—even during a storm.

Watch how I spent a cozy rainy day collecting pothos vines, styling them in simple cups, and turning my studio into a leafy retreat amid the typhoon season.

Yes, you read that right—FREE food from one of my favorite Asian fusion spots in Mandaluyong, all thanks to my BPI Rewards points! If you're a foodie like me who loves scoring delicious meals without spending a peso, this one's for you.

🎥 WATCH THE VLOG:

During one of my usual GrabFood scroll sessions, I stumbled upon Seoul Korean Chicken House, located at Paz Building, 705 Boni Ave., Mandaluyong City. I’ve heard good things about their Korean-Japanese fusion menu, so I figured—why not redeem my BPI points and treat myself?

Here’s what I ordered and my honest thoughts on each dish:

🍱 Chicken Katsudon – ₱200

Classic, comforting, and surprisingly authentic for a delivery order!

This dish features a crispy chicken cutlet topped with a soft egg and served over warm white rice. The sauce had that sweet and savory balance you’d expect from a good katsudon.

The chicken was cooked perfectly—crispy on the outside, juicy inside, and it still held its texture even after delivery. This one hit the spot, especially for fans of Japanese comfort food.

✅ Verdict: Worth every point. A filling, flavorful dish that makes a great lunch or dinner go-to!

🐙 Octobits Takoyaki (16 pcs) – ₱140

These bite-sized takoyaki balls were a fun surprise.

They were filled with tiny octopus bits, topped with bonito flakes, mayo, and that signature takoyaki sauce. I love that they served it in generous portions—16 pieces, perfect for sharing (or not!).

The flavor was on point—not too doughy, with a nice chewy center and crisp outer layer. Great for snacking while binge-watching your favorite K-dramas!

✅ Verdict: Delightful and addictive. If you love takoyaki, this is a must-try!

🍗 12 pcs Korean Wings – ₱410 (Premium Honey Butter )

Now this was the showstopper!

I ordered the Premium Honey Butter , and both flavors were absolutely mouthwatering.

The honey butter had that sweet, creamy flavor that coated each wing without being overly sticky. Meanwhile, the Louisiana BBQ was tangy, slightly spicy, and rich in flavor—think smoky with a kick!

These wings were crispy, juicy, and saucy, just the way Korean fried chicken should be.

FREE FOOD Using BPI Rewards! 😋 | GrabFood x Best Friends, Boni Ave. Mandaluyong 🇵🇭

Can you really enjoy your favorite Filipino comfort food without spending a single peso? The answer is a big YES—thanks to my unused BPI Rewards points, I was able to redeem delicious Pinoy dishes from Best Friends Diner along Boni Avenue, Mandaluyong, all delivered conveniently via GrabFood. free food using BPI rewards,BPI rewards redemption 2025,how to redeem BPI rewards for food,GrabFood BPI promo,Best Friends restaurant Mandaluyong, free GrabFood with credit card points,Filipino comfort food review, sinigang na baboy review,Mandaluyong food vlog,BPI credit card perks, daing na bangus Filipino food, fried chicken Pinoy style, top Filipino dishes GrabFood, food vlog Philippines, best Pinoy food delivery,BPI rewards 2025 guide, how to use BPI points

I was honestly just looking for something warm and comforting after a stressful workweek—and this experience turned out to be so much more than just a free meal. It brought back nostalgic feelings of home, of being welcomed by a home-cooked meal from someone who cares. Think: “Luto ni Lola” vibes in every bite. 🥹💖

  🎥 WATCH THE VLOG:
Here’s a rundown of what I ordered and my honest review of each:

🍲 Sinigang na Baboy – ₱319

This was the true highlight of my meal. Priced reasonably at ₱319, I’d say this serving is good for at least three to four people.

The broth had that perfectly balanced asim-tamis flavor, with a slightly oily finish that I actually found comforting—it felt rich and indulgent. After a long, draining day, that first sip of the sabaw honestly melted my stress away.

The pork used in the Sinigang was liempo, layered with skin, fat, and tender meat, which made each bite incredibly satisfying. It was soft, melt-in-the-mouth, and clearly boiled to perfection. The vegetables were generously added too: kangkong (water spinach), eggplant, okra, and even some Chinese cabbage, giving the dish a nice earthy texture.

✅ VERDICT: A bowl of pure comfort. Perfect whether you're coming home from work or nursing a hangover. A must-try!

🍗 Whole Fried Chicken – ₱552

Next up is the Whole Fried Chicken, and let me just say—this isn’t your typical fried chicken. I asked them to have it pre-cut into bite-sized pieces, and it arrived hot and ready to eat.

The aroma when I opened the container immediately caught my attention—it smelled like it had been infused with lemongrass, star anise, and what I think might be banana blossoms. Very aromatic and uniquely Filipino.

It tasted like the chicken was first boiled or steamed, then deep-fried, which gave it a crispy skin without the excess oil. The meat inside was tender and juicy, and every bite was packed with flavor—not bland or over-fried.

✅ VERDICT: Flavorful, fragrant, and thoughtfully prepared. Worth the price for a whole chicken that feels festive and comforting.

🐟 Daing na Bangus – ₱138

To complete the meal, I added Daing na Bangus to the order. At ₱138, this was a budget-friendly addition that made the meal feel even more traditional.

The bangus was crispy on the outside, flavorful, and didn’t taste overly oily or salty. Just the way I like it—simple and very nostalgic. It reminded me of breakfasts at home during weekends growing up.

✅ VERDICT: Great value, great flavor. Simple but definitely soul-satisfying.

🏠 The Overall Experience: Food That Feels Like Home

Eating these dishes from Best Friends Diner was like stepping back into my childhood home. It reminded me of times when my grandmother would cook us hearty meals, the type that warms not just your stomach, but your soul.

If you’re like me and need a little break from the chaos of life—this kind of food brings comfort in a way no fast-food combo meal ever could. It’s perfect for when you’re stressed, tired, or just missing home.

And the best part? It didn’t cost me a thing.
I simply redeemed my BPI Rewards points through GrabFood, and boom—free delivery, free comfort food, and a heart full of warmth.

Use Those Points, You Deserve It!

If you have BPI Rewards points just sitting in your account, don’t let them go to waste. Use them for food delivery and treat yourself to something that reminds you of home.

NEWS: 🎭 The Shocking Case of Hong Ty: A Romance Scam That Fooled 1,600+ Men

The internet is filled with stories of romance, connection, and sometimes… deceit. But none perhaps as shocking—and deeply disturbing—as the recent case of Hong Ty, a man from China who posed as a woman and scammed over 1,600 men through fake romantic relationships.

Yes, you read that right. This isn’t your typical catfishing story. This is on another level entirely.

🎥 WATCH THE NEWS FROM NEWS5:

🕵️ Who Is Hong Ty?

Hong Ty, also referred to as Hong Ti, is a biological male from Nanjing, China, who went viral in July 2025 for orchestrating one of the largest romance scams to ever hit the internet. He allegedly pretended to be a woman, using feminine disguises, wigs, and silicone body props to create an online persona that was convincing enough to emotionally and sexually manipulate hundreds of unsuspecting men.

Over time, he engaged in intimate video calls, some of which reportedly led to real-life encounters, which he secretly recorded and later shared or sold without the victims' consent.

🎥 Secret Recordings and Emotional Manipulation

According to reports, Hong Ty was not just playing a game of flirtation. He strategically built relationships, gained the trust of men, and once they were emotionally invested—or worse, sexually engaged—he recorded these moments using hidden cameras or screen recordings.

Authorities discovered a massive archive of digital material, lists of victims, detailed notes, and props used for impersonation. What makes this even more horrifying is that some victims may have been exposed to health risks, with unverified rumors circulating about the possible transmission of HIV.

🧠 A Master Manipulator or a Tragic Mind?

The case has sparked heated debates not just in China, but also in Vietnam and across Southeast Asia. Many netizens are shocked by how one person could deceive so many. But beyond the deception lies a bigger conversation: how vulnerable people can be when they’re looking for connection online.

Hong Ty knew how to play into emotional gaps—the need for affection, intimacy, and companionship. And that’s perhaps the most heartbreaking part of all: that hundreds of people believed they had found someone who cared, only to discover it was all a calculated lie.

🚨 What Can We Learn?

This scandal is a wake-up call for anyone navigating relationships in the digital age.

  • Verify before you trust. Especially when it comes to meeting someone online, always take steps to ensure the person is who they say they are.
  • Don’t ignore red flags. If something feels off, it probably is.
  • Protect your privacy. Be cautious when sharing intimate content or having video calls with someone you don’t fully know.
  • Report suspicious behavior. Authorities and platforms need your help to stop scams like this from spreading.

Some of her victims:

Let this be a reminder to stay vigilant. Trust takes time. And while the digital world opens doors to beautiful relationships, it also hides dark corners we must be brave enough to navigate wisely.

Wigs, Scams, and Parodies: The Internet's Wild Obsession with Hong Ty

What makes the Hong Ty scandal even more surreal is how quickly it transformed from a cautionary tale into a pop culture phenomenon. Within days of the story breaking, parody videos flooded TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube, with content creators mimicking her exaggerated mannerisms, voice, and online persona. Memes emerged, catchphrases were coined, and the internet turned a scandal into satire. Even drag queens and performers in local bars began impersonating "Hong Ty", turning her into a full-blown act. Her “character” is now being portrayed with wigs, oversized sunglasses, and props, reenacting dramatic fake love scenes for laughs—turning a scam artist into a stage diva.

This ironic twist has left people divided. On one hand, some see the humor as a way of processing the shock, reclaiming power through parody, and warning others through satire. On the other, critics argue that turning such a traumatic story into entertainment risks minimizing the pain of the victims—many of whom were emotionally manipulated and publicly humiliated. Regardless of where one stands, one thing is clear: Hong Ty has become a bizarre symbol of the internet age—where identity, deception, and fame intersect in unexpected and unsettling ways.

WATCH MY PARODY

As someone who’s active online and values emotional connection, this story hit hard. It’s painful to think of how many people were manipulated, violated, and betrayed by someone they trusted. The case of Hong Ty is not just about fraud—it’s about how easily we can be deceived when we let our guard down in the name of love.

An Open Letter to Ricky Reyes, Renee Salud—and yes, even you, Toni Gonzaga:

keywords I watched your recent interview. And to be honest, I wasn’t angry—I was heartbroken.

This could’ve been an empowering conversation—a Pride Month moment that uplifted, enlightened, and reflected how far we’ve come as a community. But instead, what I witnessed was an echo chamber of internalized homophobia, outdated mindsets, and the romanticization of suffering disguised as "wisdom."

  🎥 WATCH THE INTERVIEW:

Let’s talk about it.

Ricky Reyes, you shared:

> “Naranasan kong ibitin ng patiwarik, ikulong sa hawla ng manok, apuyan sa ilalim. Pero para sa’kin, tough love ‘yun.”

Tough love? No. That was abuse. What happened to you was violence, and the fact that you still call it "necessary" doesn’t make it right—it just shows how deeply it scarred you. And now, by sharing that mindset with a smile, you’re passing that trauma onto the next generation, wrapped in a bow of supposed strength.

Then there’s this gem:

> “Pag bakla kang magmahal, todo ka. Pag kumita ka ng ₱1,000, ibigay mo ang ₱800 sa lalaki, itabi mo yung ₱200 para sa pamilya mo. Pero pag nagka-girlfriend siya, tanggapin mo na wala ka na.”

You’re seriously suggesting that we budget for heartbreak? That we invest our hard-earned love and money into men who treat us like stepping stones? You're not teaching us how to love—you’re teaching us how to settle. You’re grooming younger bakla to expect crumbs and call them a feast.

And this:

> “Pag gusto mo ng long-term na lalaki, dapat hindi ka modernong babae. Dapat submissive ka, tahimik, tanggap lang nang tanggap.”

So let me get this straight: To be loved, we must lose our voice? To keep a partner, we must sacrifice our rights?

This isn’t love. This is compliance masquerading as devotion. And honestly, even cis women should be offended by how you define womanhood—as something quiet, convenient, and always agreeable. That’s not femininity. That’s erasure.

Let’s be real: “Just take it into your heart” is not advice—it’s emotional self-harm.

And then you said this:

> “Kahit umakyat ka ng kisame at pagbagsak mo, naka-shoot ka na, go ahead.”

No context. No accountability. No care for the young queer kids listening to you. Just go. Just do. Just risk it.

That’s not brave. That’s reckless.

Renee Salud, you said:

> “Learning is continuous in beauty and fashion. We must evolve.”

Then where is the evolution?

You can’t claim to be a trailblazer while dragging your community backwards. You speak of style and trends evolving—but what about your values? What about your understanding of dignity, rights, and safe spaces? You call for progress in fabric and flair, but when it comes to identity and equality, you preach endurance instead of liberation.

Growth is not just about outward appearance. It’s about mindset. It’s about listening. And honestly? That part seems to have stayed stuck in a time capsule.

And when Ricky said:

> “Being tolerated is better than being accepted.”

Let me stop you right there.

Tolerated? That means being barely endured. That means taking up space with a silent apology.

We don’t want to be tolerated. We want to be seen. Heard. Respected.

You don’t build a proud generation by telling them to be thankful for table scraps.

And then there’s you, Toni Gonzaga.

It’s Pride Month. A time to highlight voices that are bold, authentic, and fighting for visibility and protection. But you chose to amplify two figures who openly oppose the SOGIE Bill—who promote silence over truth, and suffering over empowerment.

Ricky even boasted:

> “Ako ang nagpatigil ng SOGIE Bill.”

As if it were something to be proud of. As if stopping a bill meant to protect people from harassment, discrimination, and systemic violence was an achievement. Why? Because you’d rather be tolerated than protected?

And when asked about same-sex marriage:

> “Wag na ‘yang pakialaman. Gawa ‘yan ng Diyos.”

We’re not asking your churches to officiate our weddings. We’re asking the state to acknowledge our partnerships as equal. To allow us to share health insurance. Visit loved ones in hospitals. Raise children. Build lives.

That’s not an attack on faith. That’s a call for civil rights.

Instead of clarifying this, you all leaned into the tired narrative that LGBTQIA+ people should expect less, give more, and keep quiet. That love is something we earn by making ourselves smaller. That survival is all we deserve.

So here’s my truth:

Ricky. Renee. Toni.

You are public figures. Your words shape conversations and influence minds. And right now, you’re using your platforms to recycle trauma and dress it up as tradition. That’s not just irresponsible—it’s dangerous.

Because telling queer youth to simply endure what you endured is not guidance. It’s a warning dressed as wisdom.

You don’t speak for us.

We are not your “baklang hamburger.”

We are not martyrs-in-training.

We are not half-humans living in someone else’s world.

We are whole.

We are worthy.

And we are done shrinking ourselves to fit your version of respectability.

Pride is not nostalgia.

It’s not performance.

It’s not silence.

It’s protest. It’s evolution. It’s truth in all its loud, messy, glittering glory.

So if you truly believe in legacy, start a new one: Empower. Educate. Evolve.

If not, respectfully—step aside.

Meanwhile...

I couldn’t help but feel deeply moved and empowered by what Vice Ganda said during Pride. In a time when some of our own—like Ricky Reyes and Renee Salud—choose to invalidate the identities and truths of transgender individuals, Vice stood on that stage and reminded everyone that Pride is not just about rainbow flags and parades. It’s about fighting back against outdated mindsets, even when they come from within our own community. Hearing her speak with such fire and truth, I felt seen. I felt like she spoke for all of us who have been silenced, corrected, or dismissed just for living authentically.
It’s painful when people we once looked up to—icons, even—turn their backs on the very freedom they used to represent. But Vice reminded me that progress doesn’t wait for anyone’s approval. It’s happening now. And it’s led by voices who are unapologetically loud, loving, and rooted in truth. This wasn’t just a clapback—it was a call to action, to love louder, to educate harder, and to never shrink ourselves just to fit into someone else’s comfort zone.
