Cinematic Video Shooting Challenge: Panglao Island, Bohol

 In this exciting vlog, I embarked on a "Cinematic Video Shooting Challenge" set against the breathtaking backdrop of Panglao Island, Bohol. I teamed up with two talented Boholano creators, each armed with different video equipment, to see who could create the most cinematic, film-like video output.

The challengers? Ransel Dahab showcased his skills using a Canon EOS 700D (Rebel T5i), while Alexis Neil took on the challenge with a Samsung Galaxy A5 2016. As for me, I opted for the trusty Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus. Each of us brought unique techniques and perspectives to the table, proving that cinematic creativity isn’t bound by gear. From setting up perfect shots to exploring editing magic, this friendly competition highlighted the power of storytelling through video.

Facing Fears and Finding Serenity: Sagbayan Peak and Goodbye, Bohol

After an adrenaline-packed experience at EAT Danao Adventure Park, where I took on the heart-stopping challenge of The Plunge, I thought I had reached my limit. The extreme freefall left me physically drained and mentally shaken, making it hard to focus on vlogging. Yet, there was one more destination on our Bohol itinerary that promised serenity and stunning views—Sagbayan Peak.

As we arrived at Sagbayan Peak, the tranquil atmosphere was a welcome contrast to the intensity of the day. Perched on a ridge, Sagbayan Peak offers panoramic views of the surrounding hills, which resemble the iconic Chocolate Hills that Bohol is famous for. Walking through the park, I felt a sense of calm return as I admired the lush landscape and the charming attractions. The observation decks provided breathtaking vistas, while the butterfly dome and whimsical displays added a touch of playfulness to the experience.

We wrapped up the visit with a delightful dinner at the Sagbayan Peak restaurant. The cozy ambiance and delicious food provided the perfect end to our Bohol adventure. As we said goodbye to this beautiful island and set off by sea to Cebu, I carried with me not just the thrill of conquering fears but also the memory of finding peace amidst the chaos. Simala Church: A Journey of Faith and Awe with My Friend William Pombo

Nestled in the serene hills of Sibonga, Cebu, the Simala Shrine, also known as the Monastery of the Holy Eucharist, stands as a symbol of faith and divine intervention. This grand church, often referred to as the "Castle Church," is renowned for its architectural magnificence, sacred atmosphere, and miraculous stories. Recently, I had the opportunity to visit this revered site with my dear friend, William Pombo, and the experience was nothing short of spiritually uplifting.

The Journey to Simala

The drive to Simala was as delightful as the destination itself. William and I set out early in the morning to make the most of our day. As we approached Sibonga, the scenic views of rolling hills and lush greenery provided a tranquil prelude to the sacred sanctuary awaiting us. Upon arriving, the sight of the towering church instantly captivated us, its castle-like facade gleaming under the Cebuano sun.

Awe-Inspiring Architecture and Sacred Atmosphere

Walking into the shrine felt like stepping into a divine realm. The intricate designs, majestic spires, and the vibrant colors of the structure left us in awe. Inside, the solemn atmosphere was palpable, with devotees offering prayers and lighting candles. One of the highlights was the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which is believed to have performed miracles, drawing pilgrims from all over the country.

Moments of Reflection and Gratitude

William and I spent time exploring the church’s various sections, from the prayer rooms to the candle-lighting area, each spot exuding a sense of peace and reverence. We also took a moment to write our personal petitions, joining the countless others displayed in the shrine. It was humbling to witness the sheer devotion of people, a reminder of the power of faith in uniting individuals from all walks of life.

LOST IN CEBU: Exploring Basilica Sto. Niño, Pungko-Pungko Street Food, & Pueblo Verde Nightlife

 Cebu, the Queen City of the South, offers an adventure like no other, blending history, food, and vibrant nightlife. My recent trip here was an unforgettable journey into its rich culture and dynamic energy. First stop? The historic Basilica Sto. Niño, a spiritual and cultural icon. As I stepped into the basilica’s hallowed grounds, I was instantly captivated by its solemn beauty. The ancient architecture, paired with the soothing sound of church bells, creates a serene atmosphere perfect for reflection. Lighting a candle in the nearby prayer area felt like connecting with the city’s enduring faith and tradition. The warmth of the locals, coupled with the basilica’s historical charm, made this visit a deeply enriching experience.

Next, I dove headfirst into Cebu’s flavorful street food scene with a visit to a classic Pungko-Pungko setup. This is not just a meal; it’s a cultural experience! Seated on low stools, I indulged in a spread of crispy ginabot (pork intestines), chicharon, and puso (hanging rice) paired with spicy vinegar. The lively chatter of locals around me added to the authenticity of this humble feast. It’s a no-frills dining adventure where the food takes center stage, and every bite tells a story of Cebu’s culinary heritage. If you want to experience Cebu like a local, Pungko-Pungko is the way to go!

As the sun set, I headed to Pueblo Verde in Lapu-Lapu City to experience Cebu’s nightlife. The outdoor vibe here is electric, with live music, colorful lights, and an array of food stalls and drink options to keep the energy alive. Whether you’re into craft beer or a refreshing mojito, there’s something for everyone. I enjoyed a night of mingling with locals and fellow travelers, soaking in the lively atmosphere. The combination of good food, great music, and the cool Cebu breeze made it a perfect way to end the day. Pueblo Verde truly showcases the city’s vibrant and dynamic personality after dark.

Walking through my childhood neighborhood was a powerful reminder of how quickly time passes and how much life can change. I was overwhelmed with nostalgia as I reminisced about the memories that defined my youth, from school days to family gatherings.

Taking a Bath Outdoors in a River - Causwagan, San Isidro, Bohol

On my fourth day in Bohol, I had the chance to relive cherished childhood memories while taking a bath in the Libas River, located in Barangay Causwagan, San Isidro. The cool, clear waters provided a refreshing escape from the tropical heat, making it an ideal spot for a relaxing dip. As I submerged myself in the river, memories of my early mornings flooded back to me—waking up at dawn to bathe before school, the rush to finish before the sun rose too high, and the blissful moments spent splashing in the water. The serenity of the river not only rejuvenated my spirit but also connected me to simpler times spent in nature. 

 The experience was made even more meaningful as I reminisced about weekends spent helping my grandma wash laundry in the same river. It was a time when life felt less complicated and more connected to the earth. The lush surroundings of San Isidro added to the nostalgia, with vibrant greens and the soothing sound of flowing water creating the perfect backdrop for reflection. Bathing in Libas River was not just a physical cleanse; it was a heartfelt reminder of my roots and the joys of outdoor life. The Real Situation of Bohol Province After Typhoon Odette.

Merry Christmas 2021 and Happy New Year 2022 to all of you guys. It is difficult to celebrate Christmas and experience genuine joy if at the back of your head when someone who is related to you is a victim of Typhoon Odette. It may sound repetitive hearing sad news since December 16, 2021, from the television and seeing aftermath photos on social media but that is the reality.  A lot of provinces in Visayas and Mindanao are still not yet fully recovered from the disaster until now as of writing. 

Since Bohol is my birthplace and that is my home province, my family and relatives are not exempted from the said traumatic experience.  Two of my relatives’ houses were damaged – our ancestral where I grew up and my aunt’s house, both located in the town of San Isidro. Fortunately, the said town has zero casualties and that is the only positive thing that I consider looking at. But other than that, the shelter, food, and power supply are limited. This scarcity is something that we have to consider offering our hands. 

 On Dec 20, 2021, my cousin had a chance to update me on their situation after the typhoon. He was asking for monetary help to build their dwelling back. I decided to go online and did live streaming on my Youtube and Facebook for a donation drive. 

As of Dec. 26, 2021, I gained PHP3,779.00 from my friends and followers through my GCASH number. And I am extremely thankful for that.
